About stalew
Arts & Cultural Society

stɑl̓əw̓ Arts & Cultural Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering Indigenous artists living on Coast Salish territories to share their gifts with the world.

Through arts, culture, and language, we support the rebuilding of strong Indigenous communities. Our work centres on fostering nationhood, cultural continuity, and opportunity, especially for emerging artists and knowledge keepers.

We do this through:

  • Training, mentorships, and apprenticeships

  • Workshops and cultural programming

  • Gatherings, ceremonies, and heritage projects

  • Sharing Elders’ knowledge and teachings

  • Providing access to equipment, venues, and resources

  • Supporting Indigenous language use and revitalization

Our programs bring together multiple art forms and are open to community participation. Singing and drumming in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and halq’eméylem are woven into dancing, weaving, carving, visual arts, storytelling, cooking, and more, reflecting how culture lives in our everyday lives.

In recent years, expanding our workshops into digital formats has increased access for Indigenous artists and communities. By archiving these workshops, we ensure this knowledge remains available across time, distance, and generations.

Our work is guided by the seven traditional laws passed down by our ancestors:

Health · Happiness · Generations · Generosity · Humbleness · Forgiveness · Understanding

By sharing culture, knowledge, and creative expression, we work toward healthier, more sustainable Indigenous communities — today and for the future.
